School Counselor

Primary Purpose: To support the academic, personal/social, and career development of students through a comprehensive developmental counseling program that encourages success, well-being, and post-secondary readiness.

Pay Rate: Starting at $39/hr

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree and a relevant Master’s degree required for Florida certification
• Valid Florida certification in School Counselor Certification
• Minimum of 1 year of school counseling experience with measurable impact
• Experience working with K?12 students.

Skills & Experience:

• Strong skills in individual and group counseling; crisis intervention.
• Knowledge of child/adolescent development, social-emotional learning, behavior management.
• Ability to use data to monitor student progress and inform interventions.
• Cultural sensitivity and ability to adapt to diverse student backgrounds.

Key Responsibilities:

Guidance Curriculum: Develop and deliver classroom lessons and workshops on topics such as interpersonal effectiveness, emotional health, safety, post-secondary education, and career readiness. Foster student growth in social, emotional, and personal health domains.
Individual Planning: Guide students individually in setting academic and career goals. Help students monitor progress toward those goals. Assist with course selection, transitions (e.g., elementary to middle school, middle to high school), and post-secondary planning (college applications, career paths).
Responsive Services: Provide short-term one-on-one and group counseling for students with personal, academic, or behavioral concerns. Intervene in crises and collaborate with mental health or external services as needed. Support students at risk, including those with behavioral issues, absenteeism, or mental health struggles.
Systems Support: Collaborate with teachers, administrators, families, and other support staff (e.g., BCBAs, special education) to create a supportive school environment. Maintain and analyze data on student outcomes, counseling activities, and program effectiveness. Participate in school and community meetings, and contribute to policy, referral, and resource coordination. Uphold school counseling program frameworks and state/regional requirements and certifications.
