Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to oncology patients across all phases of treatment, including work-up, therapy, and post-therapy care.
  • Administer inpatient chemotherapy regimens and manage biologic therapies, including biotherapy side effects.
  • Monitor and manage oncologic emergencies such as sepsis, tumor lysis syndrome, anaphylaxis, extravasation, and hemorrhage.
  • Perform specialized procedures including port access, central line care, wound care, chest tube management, and tracheostomy care.
  • Educate patients and families on treatment plans, symptom management, and psychosocial support, including advanced directives and hospice care when appropriate.
  • Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team, float as needed within scope to various inpatient units, including neuro and surgical overflow units.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of recent experience in oncology nursing.
  • Current RN license and eligibility to work in the state.
  • BLS certification (or equivalent).
  • Previous charge nurse experience and experience in teaching hospitals preferred.
  • Proficiency in IV therapy, infusion management, and oncologic emergency protocols.

Preferred Experience / Skills

  • Experience with specific oncologic emergencies such as ATLS, extravasation injury, and hemorrhage.
  • Knowledge of radiation safety and on-site chemotherapy administration.
  • Familiarity with EPIC electronic charting system.
  • Ability to handle complex symptom management including skin/mucous membrane alterations, neuropathy, and nausea/vomiting.

Additional Details

  • Shifts: Days, 12-hour shifts, 3 shifts per week.
  • Travel and float requirements may apply within scope, with valid licensure for Kansas and Missouri.
  • Must complete pre-start modules in EPIC and infusion pump training prior to start date.
  • Requests for time off must be submitted in advance with a maximum of 7 days.
  • References from the past year required, including supervisor and charge nurse.
  • Pending license accepted; local candidates not accepted (must reside at least 75 miles away).

Note: This position involves working in an outpatient and inpatient oncology environment, with opportunities to provide critical care across all cancer types and treatment phases.
