Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and deliver safe, therapeutic, and efficient nursing care for long-term care residents with multisystem disease and/or treatment complications, setting priorities based on acuity and resident preference.
  • Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments including review of body systems, laboratory results, diagnostic findings, and interdisciplinary input; document findings and maintain accurate resident care plans in the EHR.
  • Administer age-specific medications and therapeutics accurately; initiate, manage, and document nursing procedures consistent with scientific principles and departmental policy.
  • Provide resident and family education on disease processes, procedures, and coping strategies; participate in care conferences and in-service educational programs as assigned.
  • Delegate and supervise CNAs, LPNs, and Ward Clerks on the unit during the shift; serve in a charge nurse capacity when the Director of Nursing is not physically present.
  • Communicate and collaborate with physicians and the broader healthcare team to coordinate resident care activities and ensure continuity of care across shifts.

Required Qualifications

  • Active Alaska (AK) Registered Nurse license — required to be considered.
  • Must provide two fingerprint cards upon acceptance of assignment.
  • Current flu vaccine required.
  • Demonstrated ability to make independent clinical decisions, exercise sound nursing judgment in emergency situations, and maintain full accountability for actions taken during the shift.
  • Knowledge of and compliance with mandatory state reporting guidelines and associated time requirements.
  • Familiarity with long-term care policies, procedures, physician orders, and standards of professional nursing practice.

Preferred Experience / Skills

  • Prior experience in a long-term care or skilled nursing facility (LTC/SNF) setting.
  • Experience functioning as a charge nurse or lead RN, overseeing RNs, LPNs, and CNAs during a shift.
  • Proficiency with Electronic Health Records (EHR) for documentation of assessments, progress notes, and care plans.
