Contract | Nights | 12-hour shifts (36 or 48 hours per week accepted) | 13–26 week assignment | Onsite
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care on a Medical Surgical unit managing diagnoses including diabetes, COPD, sepsis, pneumonia, GI bleed, anemia, encephalopathy, hip fracture, dementia, and COVID-19
- Perform and manage a broad range of clinical skills including IV therapy, blood product administration, wound care, colostomy care, feeding tube management, and pre/post hemodialysis management
- Monitor patients via remote telemetry, interpret dysrhythmias, and utilize Rapid Response Team protocols as appropriate
- Administer medications including heparin, PCA, and IV insulin protocols; manage central lines, PICC lines, and peripheral lines including phlebotomy and central line blood draws
- Support respiratory needs including CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, oxygen face masks, oral suctioning, and non-invasive airway management
- Float to other units as needed, adhere to weekend and holiday scheduling requirements, and be available to serve on Storm or Hurricane Team during catastrophic events or mass casualty situations
Required Qualifications
- Active NC RN license or valid Compact RN license
- Minimum of 2 years of RN experience; first-time travelers accepted
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
- Proficiency in Medical/Surgical nursing and remote telemetry monitoring
- Experience with isolation precautions, wound care/wound vac, chest tubes, and chest drain management
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Experience with on-unit telemetry monitoring, port access, tracheostomy management, and interpretation of ABGs
- Background in CVA care, surgical drain management, and insulin administration
- Familiarity with Epic electronic health records system
- MS/Tele or stepdown experience
