Special Education Teacher

Primary Purpose: Provide specialized instruction and support to scholars with identified learning differences, disabilities, or unique learning needs. Work to ensure each scholar receives an inclusive, supportive, and academically rigorous education in preparing scholars academically, socially, and emotionally.

  • Schedule: May vary based on location
  • Openings:
    • High School: American Government, General Special Education, Biology, ELA or Economics
    • Middle School: ELA (6th grade)
    • Elementary: K-4

Qualifications:

  • Valid GA teaching certification in Special Education (K-5, 6-8, 9-12 or K-12) required.
  • Experience managing a special education caseload
  • Experience is

  • Special education instruction and classroom management
  • IEP development, implementation, and progress monitoring
  • Differentiated instruction and individualized learning strategies
  • Student assessment and data analysis
  • Behavioral intervention and positive behavior supports
  • Curriculum planning and instructional design
  • Accommodations and modifications
  • Strong communication and relationship-building
  • Collaboration with general education teachers, families, and support staff
  • Documentation and compliance
  • Ability to support students with diverse learning and behavioral needs
  • Strong organization, adaptability, and teamwork

Responsibilities:

Instruction & lesson planning

  • Adapt and execute rigorous, standards-aligned curriculum.
  • Develop differentiated lessons and assessments for students with varying learning needs.
  • Provide accommodations and modifications aligned to students' IEPs/504 plans.
  • Use student data and assessments to drive instruction and monitor progress.

Special education services

  • Develop and implement strategies to meet the needs of students with disabilities.
  • Monitor academic, behavioral, social, and developmental progress.
  • Employ specialized instructional strategies and positive behavioral supports.
  • Maintain accurate student records and required documentation. 

Collaboration

  • Work closely with general education teachers, families, and other professionals.
  • Support general education teachers in implementing accommodations and differentiated instruction.
  • Participate in meetings, professional development, and school-wide activities.
Student & family relationships
  • Build strong relationships with scholars, families, teachers, and staff.
  • Communicate student progress and needs with families.
  • Create a positive, engaging, and academically rigorous classroom environment.
