Contract | Night Shift (18:45–07:15) | 3x12-hour shifts | 36 or 48 hours per week accepted | 13–26 week contracts accepted
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care on a Med/Surg Telemetry unit with a 1:6 nurse-to-patient ratio, managing diagnoses including diabetes, COPD, sepsis, CHF, GI bleed, renal failure, pneumonia, and various surgical recovery cases
- Perform telemetry monitoring including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias; must pass EKG testing prior to start
- Manage vascular access including peripheral line care, central line blood draws, PICC line management, phlebotomy, and IV insertion and maintenance
- Administer blood products and medications including heparin, insulin, and PCA; provide wound care and wound vac management
- Manage respiratory support including BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, oxygen administration, and non-invasive airway management; perform oral suctioning
- Float as needed to the main campus facility (approximately 32 minutes away); expected to participate in Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team assignments and may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license in NC or a Compact state (pending license acceptable for submission)
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg or Med/Surg Telemetry RN experience
- BLS certification required
- NIHSS certification required
- Ability to work every other weekend and a minimum of 2 out of 3 major holidays; no block schedules unless a weekend block
- Local candidates are welcome to apply; candidates within 50 miles of the facility are subject to a local rate
Preferred Experience / Skills
- ACLS certification; experience with telemetry unit monitoring, post-angiogram, post-cardiac surgery, post-MI care, and IV insulin protocols
- Charge nurse experience; experience with CVA management, substance withdrawal, tracheostomy care, surgical drains, and ABG interpretation
- Experience with bariatric surgery, continuous bladder irrigation (CBI), port access and management, and pre/post thoracic surgery care
- Community hospital experience and proficiency with electronic documentation
