Key Responsibilities

  • Assist during surgical procedures by ensuring and maintaining the integrity of a sterile surgical field and providing instrumentation as needed to the surgical team, functioning in accordance with AORN standards.
  • Monitor the sterile field for contamination events and initiate or notify the team of corrective actions under supervision; maintain and verify proper packaging, processing, seal integrity, sterile indicators, and expiration dates of all surgical items.
  • Work toward competency or demonstrate competency with Tier 1 surgical cases while maintaining flexibility in the ongoing delivery of individualized patient care.
  • Participate fully in the Time Out Process, including Briefings and Debriefings, and model effective, timely communication with the perioperative team.
  • Assist the surgical team with patient transports, room turnovers, and room preparation; clean and prepare instruments for terminal sterilization.
  • Maintain currency in new technologies, procedures, instrumentation, and equipment while modeling professional behavior and the principles of a Just Culture; must be HIPAA compliant.

Required Qualifications

  • Completion of a Certified Surgical Technologist program and/or Licensed Surgical Technologist program
  • Active Colorado Surgical Technologist license required
  • BLS certification through the American Heart Association required
  • Must have working knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking
  • Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days, the computer skills necessary to complete online learning requirements, access online forms and policies, and complete online benefits enrollment

Preferred Experience / Skills

  • Demonstrated competency across a broad range of surgical case types and specialties
  • Experience working in a high-volume or fast-paced perioperative environment
  • Familiarity with AORN standards and best practices in sterile technique and aseptic procedures
