Special Education Teacher
Job Summary:
The Special Education Teacher provides specialized instruction to students with a wide range of learning, emotional, mental, and physical disabilities. The teacher designs and delivers personalized educational plans with a strong emphasis on language and literacy development, ensuring that all students can access and benefit from a meaningful, inclusive education. Behavioral Self-Contained.
Position Details:
- Location: Winter Haven, FL
- Pay: Starting at $42/hr
- Hours: May vary based on location

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Valid FL teaching certification in Special Education required.
- Experience working with students with a range of disabilities (e.g., learning disabilities, autism, developmental delays, etc.)
Skills & Experience:
- Knowledge of reading and language development, literacy intervention programs, and individualized instruction strategies.
- Strong organizational, communication, and collaborative skills.
- Experience with Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, or other structured literacy programs.
- Familiarity with augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems.
- Bilingual (a plus, especially Spanish or ASL).
- Familiarity with trauma-informed and culturally responsive practices.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with state and federal guidelines.
- Use research-based instructional strategies to support the development of reading, writing, language, and communication skills.
- Modify curriculum and teaching methods to meet students’ unique learning needs.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, therapists, specialists, and families to support student success.
- Conduct ongoing assessments and collect data to monitor progress and adjust instruction.
- Create a safe, nurturing, and structured classroom environment that promotes student engagement and growth.
- Participate in IEP meetings, professional development, and school-wide initiatives.
- Use assistive technology and other tools to support differentiated instruction.
