Schedule / Job Type
- Full-time, rotating shifts (Monday-Friday, with some Saturday mornings, evenings, or nights)
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare tissue specimens for microscopic examination by Pathologists, including freezing, cutting, staining, and treating tissues.
- Assist with gross examinations and autopsies as needed.
- Maintain laboratory solutions, reagents, and equipment to meet safety and quality standards.
- Log and categorize tissue specimens accurately, ensuring proper documentation.
- Support quality assurance activities and participate in continuous quality improvement efforts.
- Educate new staff, students, or lab assistants on histology techniques and equipment usage.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree in a science-related field; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Successful completion of a NAACLS-accredited histotechnology program within one year of employment.
- Certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology within one year.
- No previous experience required; on-the-job training provided.
- Strong attention to detail, safety awareness, and the ability to work effectively with medical teams.
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Familiarity with histochemical reagents, solutions, and equipment maintenance.
- Knowledge of special stains and techniques beyond routine histology.
- Excellent interpersonal and analytical skills for effective communication with staff and physicians.
