Key Responsibilities

• Provide specialized nursing care to cardiac and thoracic patients in a busy hospital telemetry unit.
• Interpret and respond to cardiac monitoring strips, including EKGs and telemetry data.
• Titrate and manage IV drips such as Cardizem and heparin according to protocols.
• Collaborate with charge nurses, house supervisors, and patient care techs to ensure quality patient care.
• Manage a patient load with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:5-6 during night shifts.
• Handle complicated patients with conditions such as MI, CHF, A fib, COPD, and post-surgical cases, including lung surgeries and chest tubes.

Required Qualifications

• Active Illinois RN license or confirmation of application process
• BLS certification (ACLS recommended)
• Experience with EKG interpretation and medication titration
• Ability to read and interpret telemetry monitor strips (Phillips monitors)
• Proficiency in basic nursing skills and titrating IV drips

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience in cardiac or thoracic units
• Familiarity with high-flow oxygen devices such as Cpap and Bipap
• Knowledge of COVID patient care protocols involving respiratory equipment
