Key Responsibilities

• Accurately review and abstract patient medical files, extracting key data for electronic record-keeping.
• Transfer data between electronic medical record systems or from paper files to electronic formats.
• Verify, update, and input patient demographics and insurance information into the system.
• Document and report issues or errors found during record abstraction process.
• Follow HIPAA guidelines to ensure the confidentiality and security of Protected Health Information.
• Participate in team meetings, professional development, and adhere to organizational policies and standards.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience with data entry and familiarity with Microsoft Teams (highly preferred).
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to operate standard office equipment including 10-key calculator, copier, fax, and telephone.
• Proficiency in typing 40 words per minute preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology is desirable.

Preferred Experience / Skills

• At least one year of work experience in a medical office or medical records setting.
• Certified Medical Assistant or related certification preferred.
• Knowledge of ICD9, CPT, HCPCS coding, and managed care contracts is a plus.
• CPR certification is preferred.
