Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to postpartum women and newborns on a 26-bed Mother/Baby unit with patient ratios of 6–8 patients per nurse
- Assess and identify risk factors related to sepsis, VTE/DVT, suicide, malignant hyperthermia, and pressure injury
- Deliver discharge education and assessments, pain management, and prioritize patient care based on acuity and individual patient needs
- Perform and support procedures including circumcisions and attending births for newborn care
- Utilize documentation systems (CPN, Meditech) and unit equipment including vitals machines, glucometers, and transcutaneous bilirubin (TCB) devices
- Float within women's services as needed; cross-training to pediatrics and/or NICU may expand float opportunities
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a postpartum or Mother/Baby nursing role
- Current BLS certification (required)
- Current NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification (required)
- Ability to recognize unit workflow, policies, and procedures within a postpartum setting
- Proficiency with AIDET and BSSR communication frameworks
Preferred Experience / Skills
- BSN degree preferred
- Experience in LDRP, well baby nursery, labor and delivery recoveries, or attending births for newborn assessment
- Familiarity with CPN and Meditech documentation systems
