Position Overview:

• Location: New York City, NY
• Pay: $150/hr per session - (2 sessions minimum = 1 Workshop)
• Hours: Seasonal - 4hrs per workshop - up to 4 in a span of 2 days
• Schools: Secondary 6th-12th grades ranging across all 5 boroughs

About the Role
We're hiring part-time Prevention Education Instructors to deliver human trafficking awareness workshops in middle schools and high schools across the New York City area. This work is on behalf of a certified 501(c)(3) nonprofit and approved New York City Department of Education vendor whose mission is simple: reach every student at least once during their K-12 years with the information that keeps them safe. You'll walk into a classroom, stand at the front of the room, and teach students how trafficking and online grooming actually work. Not the sanitized version. The real one. The classroom teacher stays in the room with you the whole time, so you're never on your own.
This is a fit for someone who has taught, presented, or performed in front of young people and wants meaningful part-time work that fits around another job, a degree program, or retirement.

Schedule and Structure
A workshop is two back-to-back sessions with the same group of students, usually on consecutive days (for example, second period Tuesday and second period Wednesday).

Here's what a typical assignment looks like:

• Two to four workshops running in parallel on a given school day, most often two or three
• Roughly four hours of classroom time on a full day, plus your travel
• Schools typically book four to eight workshops at a time, and busy weeks may pair you with a second instructor
• Sessions are scheduled Monday through Thursday or Tuesday through Friday; schools avoid splitting a workshop across a weekend

Volume is seasonal and driven entirely by school calendars. September tends to be quiet. October through mid-December and the second half of the spring semester are the heaviest stretches. There will be weeks with nothing scheduled and weeks with several assignments back to back.
Assignments are offered by email with dates. You accept the ones that work for your schedule, confirm the Sunday before, and check in when you arrive on campus.

Compensation

• 2 Sessions = 1 Workshop
• Paid training at $20 per hour for the required certification program
• All curriculum and certification costs covered, including annual recertification
• Travel, lodging, and transit reimbursed for any assignment outside the local area
• Instructors who take a full slate during a busy week can earn $1,200 or more. Pay is per workshop, so what you earn tracks directly with how many assignments you accept.

What You'll Do

• Deliver a licensed, standardized prevention education curriculum to students in grades 6 through 12
• Adapt your delivery across four grade-band versions of the curriculum, which grow more direct and detailed as students get older
• Administer brief pre-workshop and post-workshop surveys through students' devices
• Manage the room, keep students engaged, and answer questions on a heavy subject with steadiness and age-appropriate honesty
• Confirm assignments, arrive on schedule, and flag any conflicts at least one day in advance
• Debrief by phone after your first several workshops so anything that went sideways gets sorted out quickly

Who We're Looking For

Required

• Documented experience leading or presenting to groups of children or teenagers, whether in a classroom, a program, a camp, a studio, or a stage
• Comfort with classroom management at the middle school and high school level
• Ability to deliver difficult subject matter clearly and without flinching
• Reliable transportation to school sites across the five boroughs
• Willingness to complete a two-day certification program and recertify annually
• Ability to pass a background check and any fingerprinting or clearance required for school building access

Strongly Preferred

• Current or former certified teacher, ideally certified in New York
• Retired educators are an excellent fit for this role
• Bilingual in Spanish and English. We're also actively seeking instructors who speak Mandarin, Russian, or Arabic, etc
• Bachelor's, master's, or doctoral candidates in education, social work, counseling, psychology, or a related social service field
• Prior work in prevention education, crisis intervention, victim services, or youth advocacy

Also Considered

• Teaching artists, music and drama instructors, youth program leaders, coaches, librarians who ran story time, and performers with a track record in front of young audiences.
• Presenting and teaching aren't the same skill, and we care most that you can hold a room.

Training and Certification
Certification runs two days online, roughly three to four hours per day, and is led by an instructor in real time. The curriculum is nationally maintained and covers six grade-band versions, though instructors focus on the four used most in middle and high schools.
Training and recertification are fully covered, and your training hours are paid.
New instructors are observed during their first workshop and receive direct feedback afterward.

Location and Travel
Assignments are concentrated in New York City, with the greatest volume in middle schools and high schools across the five boroughs. Occasional out-of-area assignments come up and are entirely optional. When they do, travel and lodging are arranged and paid for.

The organization behind this program delivered 60 workshops last year and is expanding its reach to roughly 1,000 schools. Students who go through the program measurably improve their understanding of how trafficking and online recruitment work. That data goes back to the schools, and it's the reason districts keep rebooking. You don't need a lifetime commitment. Instructors are welcome to try a single semester and see how it fits.
