Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care on a 24-bed Intermediate Care Unit serving intermediate medical patients and surgical overflow, including urological, laparoscopic, ophthalmologic, oral surgery, diabetic teaching, and wound care cases
- Perform continuous cardiac and telemetry monitoring, including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, and participate in Rapid Response Team activations
- Manage IV therapy including central line care, PICC line management, port access, blood product administration, heparin protocols, PCA, and IV insulin protocols
- Provide wound care and wound vac management, feeding tube care, continuous bladder irrigation, and isolation precautions
- Administer and monitor respiratory support including nasal cannula, oxygen face masks, and portable oxygen
- Fulfill holiday shift coverage and Charge RN assignments as needed; expected to complete 8 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling period (Friday/Saturday/Sunday combination); regular floating between departments, units, and facilities may be required
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license — both Kansas and Missouri licensure (or compact license covering both states) required at time of submission
- Minimum 1–2 years of Telemetry experience required; first-time travelers not accepted
- BLS certification required
- NIHSS certification required
- Proficiency in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, IV therapy, and emergency response skills as outlined in unit requirements
- Must live at least 75 miles from the facility to be eligible; no local candidates accepted
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Experience with titration of insulin drips and management of renal failure patients
- Orthopedic experience including ortho trauma and total joint replacements
- Tracheostomy management and experience with surgical drains
- Familiarity with eye surgery patient care
