Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care on a Medical Surgical/Telemetry unit serving a general intermediate population including patients with sepsis, CHF, cardiac arrhythmias, AMI, CVA/TIA, altered mental status, wounds, GI bleed, ortho, urology procedures, and general post-op conditions
- Monitor and interpret cardiac telemetry and manage dysrhythmias; manage cardiac drips (no titration) and administer blood products
- Perform central line, PICC line, and peripheral IV care and management, including starting and maintaining IVs and managing Heparin protocols
- Provide tracheostomy care, chest tube management (Emerson/PleurEvac), high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC), and wound care including wound VAC
- Utilize and coordinate with Rapid Response and Code teams as needed; manage feeding tubes, PCAs, and surgical drains
- Maintain isolation precautions and document care using EPIC</strong>; may be required to float within service line and to sister facilities as needed
Required Qualifications
- Active, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license — pending licenses are not accepted</strong>; must hold both Kansas and Missouri licensure or a compact license at time of submission
- BLS certification required
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHS) certification required
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Medical Surgical/Telemetry nursing
- Proficiency in telemetry monitoring, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown level care, and all listed clinical skills
- Must reside at least 75 miles from the facility to be eligible
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Prior travel nursing experience preferred for first-time travelers
- Experience with EPIC electronic health records
- Familiarity with infusion pump and glucometer operation
- Experience managing complex intermediate-care patient populations including ETOH withdrawal and SI patients
