Registered Nurse – Pediatric ICU (PICU) | Travel Contract

San Antonio, TX | Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
Schedule / Job Type
Contract | 13 Weeks | Days | 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM | Every other weekend required | Projected Start: September 16, 2026
Key Responsibilities
- Provide ICU-level nursing care to pediatric patients across multiple body systems including respiratory, neuro, GI, GU, burns, DKA, cardiac, ortho, ENT, and more
- Manage and monitor patients on ventilators, drips, chest tubes, central lines, syringe pumps, trachs, and gastrostomy tubes
- Maintain patient ratios of 2:1, with 1:1 for higher acuity and up to 3:1 for step-down/lower acuity patients
- Assist with or support procedures including central line and chest tube placement, sedation, lumbar puncture, and intubation
- Document patient care accurately using the Meditech EMR system
- Float as needed to other children's units including NICU, PIMC, PSRG, Pedi Hemonc, ER (inpatient holds), and PCICU
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license valid in Texas or compact state eligibility
- PALS certification required
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience
- Demonstrated experience caring for intubated patients and managing mechanical ventilators
- ICU-level patient care experience is required; candidates without this background will not be considered
- Ability to adhere to dress code: navy blue scrubs, no t-shirts
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Experience caring for patients on ECMO (patient-side care, not pump management)
- Experience with Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)
- Flexible, positive attitude with strong communication skills when working within a multidisciplinary medical team
