Contract | Nights (18:45–07:15) | 36 or 48 hours per week accepted | 13–26 week contracts accepted

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care on a Medical Surgical/Telemetry unit with a 1:6 nurse-to-patient ratio, managing diagnoses including diabetes, COPD, sepsis, CHF, GI bleed, renal failure, and various surgical recovery cases
  • Perform telemetry monitoring including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, and utilize Rapid Response/Code teams as needed
  • Manage vascular access including peripheral line care, central line blood draws, PICC line management, phlebotomy, and IV initiation and maintenance
  • Administer blood products and medications including heparin, insulin, and PCA; perform wound care and wound vac management
  • Provide respiratory support including BiPAP/CPAP management, high flow nasal cannula (HFNC), oxygen administration, and oral suctioning; maintain isolation precautions and PPE
  • Float to main campus facility as required; contract staff are expected to participate in Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team assignments and may be required to report during catastrophic events or mass casualty incidents

Required Qualifications

  • Active NC RN license or valid Compact RN license (pending licensure acceptable for submission)
  • Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical/Telemetry RN experience
  • BLS certification required
  • NIHSS certification required
  • Must pass EKG testing prior to start
  • Must be available to work every other weekend and 2 of 3 major holidays; no block schedules unless a weekend block
  • Local candidates are welcome; candidates within 50 miles of the facility are eligible at an adjusted rate

Preferred Experience / Skills

  • ACLS certification; experience with telemetry unit monitoring, post-angiogram, post-cardiac surgery, post-MI, and IV insulin protocols
  • Charge nurse experience; experience with tracheostomy care, surgical drains, ABG interpretation, continuous bladder irrigation (CBI), and accessing/managing ports
  • Experience with bariatric surgery, CVA, substance withdrawal, and pre/post thoracic surgery care
  • Community hospital experience and proficiency with electronic documentation
