Registered Nurse – General Surgery / Telemetry (Travel)

Contract | Travel | 13 Weeks | Night Shift | 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM | Expected 36 hours/week | 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care on a 44-bed General Surgery unit, managing a caseload of 6–7 patients depending on shift assignment
• Perform and monitor telemetry, PCA, wound vacs, TPN, tube feeds (PEG tubes, dobhoffs), NG tubes, and IV therapies including heparin drips and IV antibiotics
• Care for post-operative patients across a broad range of surgical specialties including urology, bowel resections, cholecystectomies, appendectomies, hysterectomies, mastectomies, thyroidectomies, hernia repairs, and more
• Manage drains and urinary devices including biliary drains, JP drains, nephrostomy tubes, urinary catheters, CBI, colostomies, and urostomies
• Collaborate effectively with charge nurses, unit secretaries, providers, and CNA team members to maintain safe, efficient patient care
• Float to other med-surg areas as needed per unit staffing guidelines

Required Qualifications

• Active RN licensure (or compact equivalent) valid in North Carolina
• Telemetry competency — required; candidates without this skill will not be considered
• BLS certification — required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience
• Experience with urology and bowel patient populations
• Ability to manage 6–7 patients per shift in a fast-paced surgical environment

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Proficiency with Cerner EMR
• Experience with Baxter IV pumps and a broad range of surgical drain and wound management devices
• Background in a high-acuity med-surg or general surgery setting
