Contract | Night Shift | 12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM | Every other weekend required | Holiday rotation required
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care on a 70-bed Cardio Thoracic unit serving patients with diagnoses including MI, CHF, A-fib, COPD, pacemaker/AICD placement, lung surgeries with chest tubes, and esophagectomy
- Perform EKG interpretation and monitor telemetry using Philips monitoring systems; read and interpret rhythm strips independently
- Titrate drips including Cardizem and heparin per unit protocols
- Manage patients on CPAP, BiPAP (home regimen), and heated high-flow oxygen as applicable; troubleshoot respiratory therapy equipment
- Float to other general medical units as needed
- Adhere to all facility policies including drug-free campus requirements
Required Qualifications
- Active Illinois RN license (or confirmation that the application process has been initiated)
- BLS certification required
- Proficiency in EKG interpretation and cardiac rhythm strip reading
- Experience with medication titration and drip management
- Competency in all basic nursing skills applicable to an acute care telemetry setting
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for standard contract rates; candidates within 50 miles are subject to a local rate adjustment
Preferred Experience / Skills
- ACLS certification (recommended)
- Prior experience in a telemetry, cardiology, or cardio thoracic nursing setting
- Familiarity with chest tube management and post-surgical cardiac or thoracic patients
- Previous experience at a comparable facility or health system
