Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive Labor and Delivery nursing care including antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum management for a unit averaging 200–300 births per month
  • Perform and interpret External and Internal Fetal Monitoring (EFM, IUPC placement and calibration) and recognize and respond to abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
  • Administer medications including Magnesium Sulfate therapy, Pitocin (oxytocin), antihypertensives, insulin drips, prostaglandins, terbutaline, and opioids; administer blood and blood products as ordered
  • Assist with vaginal deliveries, cesarean sections, high-risk deliveries, forceps/vacuum extractions, and neonatal resuscitation; perform APGAR scoring and newborn assessments
  • Manage high-acuity obstetric conditions including pre-eclampsia/eclampsia, placenta previa/abruptio, uterine rupture, VBAC, preterm labor, multiple gestation, and postpartum hemorrhage
  • May float to provide OB-specific care alongside a primary RN at an affiliate emergency department; on first float shift, expected to arrive 30 minutes early for unit orientation

Required Qualifications

  • Active and unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license — must be in hand prior to start date
  • BLS certification required
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification required
  • AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring course required
  • Minimum 18 months of Labor and Delivery RN experience required; prior L&D travel experience strongly preferred
  • Indiana residents are not accepted for this position (exceptions apply to Surgical Services, Allied, and Ambulatory/Clinic positions only)

Preferred Experience / Skills

  • Proficiency with Cerner electronic health record system
  • Experience with couplet care, neonatal hypoglycemia management, thermoregulation, and radiant warmers
  • Familiarity with epidural and general anesthesia monitoring, pain assessment, and management in the obstetric setting
  • Experience with amnioinfusion, IUPC placement, and management of RH incompatibilities and malpresentations
