Contract | Night Shift (3x12 Hours, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM) | 13–20 Week Contracts | Expected 36 or 48 hours/week
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care on a Medical Surgical/Telemetry unit with a 1:6 nurse-to-patient ratio, managing diagnoses including diabetes, COPD, sepsis, CHF, GI bleed, renal failure, and various surgical recovery cases
- Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms via telemetry; manage dysrhythmias and utilize remote monitoring systems
- Perform and maintain IV access including peripheral lines, PICC lines, central line blood draws, and phlebotomy; administer blood products and manage medications including heparin, insulin, and PCA
- Provide respiratory support including BiPAP/CPAP management, high flow nasal cannula (HFNC), oxygen administration, and oral suctioning
- Perform wound care, wound vac management, colostomy/ileostomy care, feeding tube management, and chest tube care
- Adhere to isolation precautions/PPE protocols; float to main campus as required; may be assigned to a Storm Team or Hurricane Team and expected to report during catastrophic events or mass casualty incidents
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license in North Carolina or a Compact state (pending licensure acceptable at time of submission)
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg or MS/Telemetry nursing experience
- BLS certification required
- NIHSS certification required
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
- Must be available to work every other weekend and 2 of 3 major holidays; no block schedules unless a weekend block
- Local candidates (within 50 miles of the facility) are welcome; a modified rate applies
Preferred Experience / Skills
- ACLS certification and prior telemetry or on-unit monitoring experience
- Charge nurse experience
- Experience with post-angiogram care, post-cardiac surgery, post-MI, IV insulin protocols, bariatric surgery, continuous bladder irrigation (CBI), CVA management, tracheostomy care, or pre/post thoracic surgery
- Community hospital experience and proficiency with electronic documentation
