Key Responsibilities

• Serve as primary scrub person for operative procedures, including setting up cases, ensuring all instruments are thoroughly sterilized, and maintaining the sterile field throughout
• Pass instruments, assist the physician as directed, perform instrument, sponge, and sharps counts, and collaborate with the circulating RN on patient draping and positioning
• Alert the circulating nurse of any identified risks or variances from standard operating procedures during case setup and throughout the procedure
• Perform post-case gross decontamination of instruments, break down instruments for Central Sterile Processing, and ensure the surgical suite is disinfected and restocked for the next case
• Notify appropriate leadership of any damaged instruments and follow all standards for instrument transport and return to Central Sterile
• Complete all mandatory hospital education, maintain compliance with HR and Employee Health requirements, and adhere to all safe practices in the OR

Required Qualifications

• Seven (7) years of surgical technologist experience
• Technical Diploma from an accredited Surgical Technologist program, or comparable military training
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Strong communication skills with the ability to practice effective, clear, and respectful verbal and written communication
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with and respect all members of the surgical team
