Registered Nurse – Oncology (Medical Oncology / Progressive Care Unit)

Contract | Days / Nights Rotating | 3x12-Hour Shifts | Day Shift: 7:00–19:30 | Night Shift: 19:00–7:30

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-acuity nursing care on a 36-bed Oncology Telemetry unit with over 24 beds dedicated to PCU-level care, serving patients with solid tumor, orthopedic oncology, and thoracic oncology diagnoses.
  • Monitor and interpret cardiac telemetry using GE telemetry systems; manage cardiac drips and titrate as required.
  • Perform and manage central line care, PICC line management, port access, peripheral IV insertion, and blood product administration.
  • Operate and manage specialized equipment including Alaris pumps, PCA pumps, continuous bladder irrigation, bladder scanner, and Stryker beds.
  • Implement and maintain strict infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention measures.
  • Float to units of equivalent or lower acuity as needed based on staffing priorities.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of acute care nursing experience, with at least 1 year of PCU-level experience.
  • Valid RN license (compact or state-specific) required at time of submission; must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program.
  • Active certifications: Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and NIH Stroke Scale.
  • Proficiency in dysrhythmia interpretation, heparin protocols, feeding tube care, tracheostomy management, chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), external CPAP/BiPAP, High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), and ABG interpretation.
  • Ability to use rapid response teams and manage high-acuity PCU patients at a 1:3 nurse-to-patient ratio (PCU) and 1:4–5 (Med Surg Telemetry).
  • Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager, director, or formal leadership role.

Preferred Experience / Skills

  • Oncology nursing experience, including chemotherapy administration and monitoring.
  • Skills in arterial line management, wound care/wound VAC, IV insulin protocols, insulin drip titration, phlebotomy, surgical drain management, and non-invasive airway management.
  • Previous travel nursing experience.
  • Experience with dysrhythmia management.
