Key Responsibilities
- Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates nursing interventions, plans of care, and patient goals in the perioperative setting
- Collaborates with surgeons, anesthesiologists, clinical coordinators, and surgical technicians to ensure patient well-being throughout surgical intervention
- Maintains sterile fields and oversees the correct care, handling, and sterilization of sterile supplies and instruments
- Applies principles of aseptic practice and oversees the selection and preparation of supplies, equipment, and instrumentation for all surgical cases
- Maintains sponge, needle, and instrument counts per policy and procedure, and communicates results to the surgeon
- Identifies, labels, cares for, and handles all specimens and cultures according to established policy; verifies patient identification, consent forms, operative procedure, and site prior to entering the operating room
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Current Massachusetts RN license required
- ACLS required upon hire, OR active BLS with AHA ACLS obtained within 60 days of hire
- Ability to function effectively in an environment with competing priorities
- Excellent communication skills, ability to multitask, and a positive, can-do attitude
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Prior Operating Room nursing experience strongly preferred
- CNOR certification strongly preferred
