Registered Nurse – Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
Location
Olathe, KS | Progressive Care Unit / Step-Down
Schedule / Job Type
Contract | Nights | 12-hour shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM) | 3 shifts per week | Every other weekend required | One holiday required from each of the following groups: Thanksgiving Day or Black Friday | Christmas Eve or Christmas Day | New Year's Eve or New Year's Day
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care in a Progressive Care / Step-Down unit with patient ratios of 3:1 to 4:1
- Manage patients requiring BiPAP, chest tubes, and PICC lines, and perform independent lab draws without a vascular access team
- Care for post-open-heart surgery patients (Day 2 or Day 3) including management of pacer wires
- Independently call consults and conduct codes as needed
- Float to ICU and all inpatient units including Med/Surg, Med/Tele, Acute/Tele, and the Emergency Department (based on prior experience)
- Document and manage patient care using the Epic EMR system
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of recent Critical Care/ICU or Emergency Department experience
- Active Kansas RN license or valid Compact RN license required
- BLS, ACLS, and NIH certifications required
- Demonstrated proficiency with BiPAP, chest tubes, PICC lines, and independent lab draws
- Comfort operating independently without a vascular access team, including calling consults and running codes
- Open-heart post-operative experience (Day 2/Day 3) with pacer wire management
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to manage high-acuity patients in a fast-paced environment
- Prior experience floating to ICU, Med/Surg, Med/Tele, Acute/Tele, or Emergency Department settings
- Familiarity with Epic EMR
