Schedule / Job Type
Contract | Night Shift | Option 1: 4x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30), no call required | Option 2: 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30) with a minimum of one 12-hour call shift bi-weekly | Every other weekend coverage expected (subject to change based on unit need)
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to neonatal patients from 22 weeks gestation and above, including those with diagnoses such as abdominal wall defects, HIE, RDS, drug exposure/withdrawal, hypoglycemia, sepsis, TEF, Duodenal Atresia, Diaphragmatic Hernia, myelomeningocele, and ROP
- Perform and assist with special procedures including full body cooling, chest tube management, tracheostomy management, Avastin administration, laser eye surgery support, and surgical repair of anomalies (excluding cardiac)
- Operate specialized equipment including Arctic Sun, Jet Ventilator, HFOV, Draeger Ventilator, HFNC, Bubble CPAP, Atom and GE Dual Incubators, Draeger Caleos, radiant warmers, Alaris, Philips Central, B Braun and Infinity feeding pumps, and external shunt and ostomy management
- Document patient care accurately using EPIC EMR and utilize Pyxis/Omnicell unit systems
- Float to other NICU units or facilities as needed based on census demands, performing only tasks within demonstrated and documented competencies
- Complete required pre-assignment modules and annual compliance requirements within designated timeframes
Required Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in South Carolina
- BLS, NRP, and S.T.A.B.L.E. certifications required
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in NICU (Level II and Level III) required
- Minimum 1 year of recent EPIC EMR experience required
- First-time travelers are not eligible for this assignment
- Must live at least 100 miles from all system facilities to be fully eligible; candidates residing 90–99.9 miles away may be considered at a reduced rate; candidates under 90 miles are not eligible (night shift NICU does not qualify for the 50-mile exception)
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Experience with high-acuity neonatal diagnoses and complex surgical neonatal cases
- Familiarity with advanced ventilatory support including HFOV, Jet Ventilator, and Bubble CPAP
- Prior travel nursing experience in a NICU setting
