Key Responsibilities
- Provide sign language interpretation within all academic settings to facilitate communication for students with hearing impairments.
- Offer interpretation for extracurricular activities and language development sessions.
- Support students' self-advocacy skills and foster an inclusive learning environment.
- Collaborate with educators, therapists, families, and staff to ensure comprehensive support for students across all classroom activities.
- Assist with students' use of assistive technology and communication devices as needed.
Required Qualifications
- EIPA score of 3.5 or higher.
- Valid certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID), such as NIC.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Deaf Education or a related field.
- Eligibility for or possession of a Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) Clearance Certificate.
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) or other sign languages.
- Knowledge of educational strategies for students with hearing impairments.
- Familiarity with assistive technology used in DHH education.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Compassionate, patient, and dedicated to supporting an inclusive classroom environment.
Work Environment
- Classroom and school settings, including group and individual instruction.
- Regular interaction with students, educators, and families using various communication methods, including sign language and assistive devices.
- Ability to support students with mobility or physical needs as prescribed in IEPs.
- Use and maintenance of communication and assistive technology devices.
