Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care on a 21-bed nephrology unit managing a 1:4–5 nurse-to-patient ratio on days
• Care for patients with complex diagnoses including ESRD, AKI, hemo- and peritoneal dialysis, kidney and pancreas transplants (post-op and rejection), parathyroidectomies, and urological procedures
• Conduct bedside reporting and perform 1–2 hour patient rounding each shift
• Collaborate with PCTs, charge nurses, and house supervisors present 24/7 to ensure safe, coordinated patient care
• Administer inhalers and coordinate with respiratory therapists for respiratory treatments as needed
• Float to other general medical units as needed; infrequent float to ED or ICU in a support capacity only

Required Qualifications

• Active Illinois RN license (or confirmation that the application process has been initiated)
• Current BLS certification required
• General medical-surgical nursing background
• Must comply with a drug-free workplace policy and produce a negative drug screen
• Must live more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible at the standard contract rate

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Prior nephrology or urology nursing experience
• Familiarity with dialysis patient populations (hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis)
• Experience with transplant patient care (kidney and/or pancreas)
• Demonstrated positive attitude, strong teamwork, and dependability
