Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to Labor and Delivery patients, including antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum populations
- Perform and interpret External and Internal Fetal Monitoring (EFM/IFM), recognize and respond to abnormal fetal heart rate patterns, and manage IUPC placement and calibration
- Administer medications including Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate, antihypertensives, insulin drips, prostaglandins, terbutaline, and opioids; administer blood and blood products as ordered
- Assist with vaginal deliveries, cesarean section recovery, high-risk deliveries, forceps/vacuum extractions, and VBAC management
- Perform newborn assessments including APGAR scoring, neonatal resuscitation, newborn hypoglycemia management, thermoregulation, and infant identification and security banding
- May float to provide OB-specific care alongside a primary RN at an affiliate emergency department; does not take primary assignment during float
Required Qualifications
- Active and unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license, must be in hand prior to start date
- Minimum of 18 months of Labor and Delivery RN experience; prior L&D travel nursing experience required
- Current BLS, NRP, and AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring certifications required
- Proficiency with Cerner electronic health record system
- Must be willing and able to float within the facility or to an affiliate location as required
- Must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays; Indiana residents are not eligible for this position
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Experience in high-volume Labor and Delivery settings (200–300 births per month)
- Familiarity with complex OB conditions including pre-eclampsia/eclampsia, placenta previa/abruptio, malpresentations, multiple gestation, preterm labor, and uterine rupture
- Experience with couplet care, postpartum hemorrhage management, and pregnancy-induced hypertension
