Contract | Full-Time | Days, 3x12-Hour Shifts (6:45 AM – 7:15 PM) | Onsite

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care on a primary oncology unit treating all cancer types across all phases of care, from initial work-up through completion of therapy
  • Administer inpatient chemotherapy regimens and manage IV therapy and infusions including blood/blood product administration, central line care, and infusion pump management
  • Deliver post-operative care for uro-gynecologic and gynecologic oncology surgical patients
  • Serve as overflow support for a step-down neuro unit managing patients with strokes, head bleeds, and other neurological conditions
  • Perform symptom management including pain management, nausea/vomiting, neuropathy, altered mental status, and wound care; manage oncologic emergencies such as sepsis
  • Fulfill charge RN assignments and holiday shifts as needed; regular floating between departments, units, and facilities may be required — candidates must hold both Kansas and Missouri licensure, or a compact license, at time of submission

Required Qualifications

  • Active RN license (Kansas and Missouri licensure, or compact license, required at time of submission; pending license accepted)
  • Minimum 2 years of oncology nursing experience required
  • BLS certification required
  • Proficiency in IV therapy and infusions: administration of coagulation factors, antifungals, antivirals, blood/blood product administration, port care and management, central line blood draw, central line/implanted line care, and infusion pump management
  • Competency in professional nursing skills including telemetry interpretation and monitoring, chest tube care, Foley catheter insertion/management, isolation and neutropenic precautions, wound care, and pain management including PCA pump management and IV push narcotic agents
  • Must reside at least 75 miles from the facility to be eligible; local candidates are not accepted

Preferred Experience / Skills

  • Previous charge nurse experience and teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Experience with oncologic emergencies including acute tumor lysis syndrome, anaphylaxis, extravasation injury, and hemorrhage
  • Experience caring for patients with a broad range of cancer diagnoses including brain, breast, lung, leukemia/blood dyscrasias, lymphoma, and gynecologic cancers, among others
  • Skills in chemotherapy-related care including oral chemotherapy administration, body fluid handling post-chemotherapy, biotherapy side effect management, tracheostomy care, port access, hospice care, and radiation safety precautions
