Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical / Telemetry (ED Holding / Float Pool)

Contract | Night Shift (3x12 Hours, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM) | 36 or 48 hours per week | Every other weekend required

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care to adult patients with a variety of medical/surgical diagnoses in an ED inpatient holding area, supporting patients awaiting inpatient bed placement
  • Monitor and manage telemetry, including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, using cardiac monitors and remote telemetry systems
  • Perform and manage clinical skills including blood product administration, PICC line and peripheral line care, phlebotomy, chest tube management, CPAP/BiPAP, High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), and tracheostomy management
  • Float to Emergency Department and Medical/Surgical areas as needed, including care of PCU-level patients
  • Utilize Rapid Response Teams as appropriate and adhere to isolation precautions
  • Document accurately using Epic, communicate via SBAR, and administer medications via Pyxis

Required Qualifications

  • Active RN license in North Carolina or a valid Compact state license
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Prior travel nurse experience required
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Must pass EKG competency testing prior to start
  • Proficiency in MS/Tele skills including telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, ABG interpretation, colostomy care, feeding tube management, renal failure care, heparin and insulin administration, and non-invasive airway management

Preferred Experience / Skills

  • NIHSS certification; experience with CVA, pre/post neuro surgery, spinal cord injuries, or traumatic brain injury
  • Experience with IV insulin protocols, pre/post hemodialysis management, accessing ports, and central line blood draws
  • Orthopedic trauma, total joint replacement, and wound care/wound VAC experience
  • Comfort starting IVs in high-acuity, fast-paced environments
