Medical Laboratory Technician

Contract | Night Shift (9:00 PM – 7:30 AM) | 7 on / 7 off | Every other weekend required | Holidays required | No on-call required

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare specimens and perform routine and specialized laboratory tests in a clinical laboratory setting
• Conduct quality control procedures, troubleshoot QC errors, and perform preventative maintenance on laboratory instruments
• Recognize and evaluate computer data problems and troubleshoot laboratory equipment as needed
• Recognize normal and abnormal values and communicate technical findings to medical and non-medical personnel
• Assist with training laboratory personnel in routine procedures and participate in continuing education
• Note: During hurricane season (June–November), contractors may be assigned to emergency response teams

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology or a relevant medical or scientific discipline
• Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician by ASCP BOC or equivalent, or relevant specialty lab certification
• Experience in Chemistry is required
• Must live at least 60 miles from the facility to be eligible; locals may be considered on a case-by-case basis
• All requested time off must be submitted at the time of application; approvals are based on facility needs

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting preferred; first-time travelers accepted
• Experience in Hematology highly preferred in addition to Chemistry
