Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct bedside nursing care in a stepdown/PCU unit serving a diverse patient population transitioning from ICU-level care, including cardiac, respiratory, neurological, renal, and complex medical-surgical patients
- Manage cardiac patients including those with CHF, MI, ACS, cardiac arrhythmias, post-TAVR/MVR, pacemakers, and drug load protocols (approximately 30% of patient population)
- Care for respiratory patients including those with COVID, influenza, COPD/asthma exacerbations, tracheostomy (greater than 24 hours post-placement), chronic home ventilators, high-flow nasal cannula, and BiPAP
- Operate within a Co-Care/Virtual Nursing Model, collaborating with a Virtual RN and CNA for each patient; bedside RN ratio is 1:4
- Utilize Epic for all clinical documentation and charting
- Float to lower acuity units, renal care, neuro, and medical-surgical units as needed to meet facility staffing requirements
Required Qualifications
- Active Alaska RN license required; pending licensure considered, however license must be in hand prior to offer finalization — candidates must be able to complete the AK RN license application, including fingerprints and application fee submission, within 48 hours of signing
- Minimum 1 year of PCU, stepdown, or IMC nursing experience required
- BLS certification required
- ACLS certification required
- NIHSS certification required
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible; local candidates are not accepted at standard terms
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Experience with cardiac monitoring and management of complex cardiac patient populations
- Familiarity with respiratory support modalities including high-flow nasal cannula, BiPAP, and tracheostomy care
- Prior experience in a Magnet-designated or Level II Trauma facility
- Experience with Epic EMR
