Registered Nurse – ICU / Progressive Care Unit

Schedule / Job Type

Contract | Night Shift (3x12 Hours, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM) | 36 or 48 hours per week available | 13-week assignment (or longer)

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-acuity progressive care nursing in a unit that operates similarly to an ICU, managing a patient ratio of 1:3–4
  • Monitor, interpret, and manage dysrhythmias using bedside telemetry with remote backup; must be able to recognize and treat dysrhythmias independently
  • Titrate vasoactive drips including Cardizem, Nitro, Precedex, Cardene, Levophed, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Neo; manage arterial lines, BIPAP, chest tubes, and tracheostomies
  • Care for a diverse patient population including post-rapid response, respiratory distress, unstable hemodynamics, GI bleeds, withdrawal, and post-operative patients (GYN, GU, GI, thoracotomy, neuro, ortho); patient ages range from adolescent to geriatric
  • Administer blood products, manage central lines, PICC lines, peripheral lines, and implement heparin and IV insulin protocols
  • Float as needed to a sister ICCU unit; work every other weekend as required

Required Qualifications

  • Active NC RN license or valid Compact RN license (pending license accepted for submission)
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience in a PCU, DOU, IMC, Stepdown, or ICU setting
  • Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
  • Strong vasoactive drip titration experience and arterial line management required
  • Must pass EKG/rhythm strip testing prior to start
  • Proficiency with Epic and Pyxis; experience with IV starts, telemetry monitoring, and conscious sedation required
  • Local candidates are welcome (note: a lower rate applies for candidates within 50 miles of the facility)

Preferred Experience / Skills

  • Experience with high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC), external CPAP/BiPAP, and non-invasive airway management
  • Familiarity with chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac) and tracheostomy care
  • Experience with CVA patients and use of Rapid Response Teams
  • Prior travel nursing experience (first-time travelers also accepted)
