Contract | Full-Time | Nights (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM, 3x12-Hour Shifts) | Onsite
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care on a high-acuity cardiac stepdown unit serving as the primary cardiac and stroke unit, managing a patient assignment of up to 1:5–6 ratio
- Care for stable pre- and post-procedure cardiac patients including pacemaker implantation, implanted cardioverter/defibrillators, cardiac catheterization, and interventional peripheral vascular procedures
- Manage and titrate cardiac drips including Cardizem, Dopamine, and Amiodarone; administer and monitor IV therapy and telemetry
- Monitor and care for patients with diagnoses including unstable angina, CHF, dysrhythmias, CVA, TIA, and low-risk chest pain evaluation
- Operate and monitor special equipment including telemetry, pulse oximetry, high-flow O2, non-rebreather masks, and BiPAP (chronic use only)
- Participate in on-call rotation, float assignments, and required weekend coverage (every other weekend; 2 Mondays and 2 Fridays per 6-week period)
Required Qualifications
- Active NC RN license or valid Compact RN license (pending licensure acceptable at time of submission)
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a cardiac stepdown or similarly high-acuity setting with comparable patient ratios and acuity levels
- Required certifications: ACLS, BLS/BCLS, and NIH Stroke Scale
- Proficiency in IV insertion, telemetry monitoring, cardiac drip management, and PCI patient care
- Must be comfortable managing a 6-patient assignment in a fast-paced, high-turnover environment (78–90 patient turnovers per week)
- Local candidates are welcome and eligible at the same posted rate
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Prior travel nursing experience (first-time travelers will be considered)
- Familiarity with Pyxis, Epic (Dimensions), and SBAR communication frameworks
- Experience titrating Cardizem drips and managing patients on opti-flow or BiPAP (chronic use)
- Comfort with self-scheduling environments and adapting to fluctuating census-based demands
