Contract | Nights (18:45–07:15) | 36 or 48 hours per week | 13–26 week contracts accepted
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care on a Medical Surgical / Telemetry unit with a 1:6 nurse-to-patient ratio, managing diagnoses including diabetes, COPD, sepsis, CHF, GI bleed, renal failure, and various surgical recovery cases
- Perform telemetry monitoring including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, and utilize Rapid Response and Code teams as needed
- Manage vascular access including peripheral line care, central line blood draws, PICC line management, phlebotomy, and IV insertion and maintenance; administer blood products, heparin, insulin, and PCA
- Provide respiratory support including BiPAP/CPAP management, High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), oxygen administration, and non-invasive airway management
- Perform wound care including wound vac management, colostomy/ileostomy care, feeding tube management, chest tube care, and pre/post hemodialysis management
- Adhere to storm/hurricane team assignments — contract staff may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters, and may be reassigned to other units as needed
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license in North Carolina or a Compact state (pending license acceptable for submission)
- Minimum of 2 years of Med/Surg or MS/Telemetry experience required
- BLS certification required
- NIHSS certification required
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
- Must be available to work every other weekend and 2 of 3 major holidays; no block scheduling (weekend blocks excepted)
- Must be open to floating to a nearby campus as required
- Local candidates are welcome; a lower rate applies for candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Charge nurse experience preferred
- ACLS certification; on-unit telemetry monitoring experience
- Experience with post-angiogram, post-cardiac surgery, post-MI care, IV insulin protocols, bariatric surgery, CBI, port access, CVA management, substance withdrawal, tracheostomy care, ABG interpretation, and pre/post thoracic surgery
- Community hospital experience and proficiency with electronic documentation
